Bas Sanders

With a family background of forest rangers and machine builders, it was a logical step to start a study in Mechanical Engineering and Technology Management at the Technical University of Eindhoven. Meanwhile, whenever possible, exploring natural wonders around the globe. His working life started as a Mechanical Engineer and later as Creative Engineer in product development and design.
Along the way he became more aware of the fact that sustainability was not an issue for many companies. This enlarged his motivation to contribute to a more livable planet, so he picked up studying again and enrolled Environmental Sciences at the Open University.
Driven by his entrepreneurship Bas founded his company Sanders Innovation in 2009. This enabled him to create sustainable solutions through research and expertise in the areas of design, engineering and environmental and natural sciences. This also gave him the opportunity to connect with likeminded people. After hearing a wonderful speech by Dayna Baumeister he was convinced of Biomimicry as being a big inspiration and great innovation methodology.
Gratefully he participated in the Biomimicry and Design Course in Costa Rica in 2010.
This journey resulted in becoming one of the co-founders of biomimicryNL, the official non-profit biomimicry organization in the Netherlands. He is looking forward to pass on his knowledge and help others with the development of sustainable design and innovation.
Saskia van den Muijsenberg

Born and raised on the coastal city of The Hague, the Netherlands, Saskia spent many free hours on the beach, and still loves to go there, especially on windy days. Saskia holds a master degree in marketing & communication and started her career in media and publishing (sports magazines, newspapers).
After completing her MBA she worked several years with Shell, in change management, marketing, and strategic innovation. In her last role she ran the GameChanger Innovation Workshop Program and acted as a catalyst for innovation, enabling others to explore and develop new ideas then helping to shape and develop real business opportunities. When she got to ‘experience’ biomimicry she instantly became infected and took the opportunity of leaving Shell to become one of the co-founders of biomimicryNL. Saskia ‘does’ lectures, trainings, design and delivery of workshops, innovation consultancy and the communication of biomimicryNL’s activities.
To develop her self further in the field of biomimicry, Saskia joined (together with Bas Sanders) the BPCP (Biomimicry Professional Certificate Program) 2011 cohort.

In February 2009 she invited Janine Benyus to be keynote speaker at the first biomimicry congres in The Netherlands. Since then, she became part of the biomimicry rollercoaster. Recently, together with Bas Sanders and Saskia van den Muijsenberg, she founded biomimicryNL, a non-profit organisation aimed at supporting the development of a real sustainable world using biomimicry as a vision on business and design methodology. Meanwhile biomimcryNL is working for several (international) clients also some well known educational institutes.
