Speakers BiomimicryNL Boost Festival - 23 October 2020

Pieter Hoff - Groasis

About this Talk (in English):
Pieter talks about his dream to reforest 2 billion hectares of land that once was eroded and lost by desertification. He wants to inspire us to reforest those areas. How his invention is reversing climate change. Key words: innovation, sustainability, nature and entrepreneurship.

About Pieter:
Pieter Hoff is the inventor of the plant cocoon. He was a lily breeder, -grower and -exporter. On his travels to his customers who produced flowers worldwide, he saw how much water was wasted in the agricultural world as a result of drip irrigation. Worldwide, the agricultural sector consumes 73% of the fresh water, in Africa it is even 85%. UN Water has published that from 2025, 48 countries will be suffering from serious water shortages. So something has to change. Pieter decided in 2003 to sell his company and devote himself to finding solutions to improve the efficiency of water use in the agricultural sector. His inventions have since been sold to 43 countries. The basis of his Groasis Technology is inspired by nature.
