Speakers BiomimicryNL Boost Festival - 23 October 2020
The most successful species are those that adapt to change, and the same is true in business. But there are limits to vertical growth, and our hierarchical structures can only grow so tall before complexity and instability overwhelm them. Today's global organizations need a new way to sense and respond to change. Earth's most ancient and successful societies – the ants and termites, and vast fungal networks underground – have already solved the problem. For hundreds of millions of years, they have worked in huge cities – tens of millions strong – compounding their wealth from one generation to the next with no management whatsoever. With just four simple principles – Collective Intelligence, Distributed Leadership, Swarm Creativity, and Regenerative Value – Teeming shows how these simple individuals pool their diverse and independent experiences to create rich hotspots of abundance and exquisite resilience to change. We can do it too.

Founder and Principal, TEEM Innovation Group
Dean of Geoversity’s School of Biocultural Leadership in Panama
Tamsin is the author of TEEMING: How Superorganisms Work to Build Infinite Wealth in a Finite World, an Amazon Bestseller in Organizational Learning and Environmental Economics, as well as Ecology and Animal Behavior––testament to the lively ecotones we biomimics inhabit.
Tamsin started as a biologist––studying plant form and function in California’s redwood-filled Santa Cruz mountains; backpacking the Hawaiian Islands; obsessing about sociobiology under the legendary Robert Trivers; and working as a live-aboard marine mammal observer in the Bering Sea as the only woman on a crab boat with 25 fishermen. Her profits took her to the Amazon and the Galapagos Islands where she immediately forgot her aversion to boats. She earned her doctorate in Biological Anthropology, working alternately in a genetics lab and a tent in the Ethiopian desert, making friends with baboons. This was the longest running and most extensive genetic study for any wild primate for many years and is still widely cited.
Today Tamsin provides organizational design and innovation consulting for some of the world’s biggest and most innovative companies through her company TEEM Innovation Group. Collaborations with Geoversity’s School of Biocultural Leadership in Panama, David Sloan Wilson’s Evolution Institute, and the Growth Institute for mid-cap entrepreneurs are aimed at catalyzing Living Systems Thinking and Design in all human endeavors.
